Did you know that the last solar eclipse in New York occurred in 1925? This makes the upcoming event on April 8th a rare and special occasion. Moreover, the next total solar eclipse in the United States is not until 2045, and for New York specifically, it will not happen until 2079 and 2144. So, mark your calendars and join us for this unique experience!

FREE Admission at National Soaring Museum (NSM)
NSM will offer FREE admission and eclipse glasses on Monday, April 8th. You may also want to view the Eclipse from the Harris Hill overlook at the bottom of the drive.

Take to the skies! Weather permitting, the runway at Harris Hill Soaring will open for the 2024 season the weekend of April 6th-7th from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Eclipse Exhibit at Chemung Valley History Museum
The new exhibit, The 1925 Solar Eclipse, will be open to the public on March 8th– July 27th, 2024. Chemung County was in the path of totality of the solar eclipse on January 24, 1925. This exhibit explores how Elmirans celebrated, what city officials feared would happen during the eclipse, and how local businesses capitalized on the crowds that gathered. It also explores the science behind eclipses and how to watch the upcoming solar eclipse on April 8, 2024.
Eclipse Student Drop off STEM event for grades K-8
Wings of Eagles Discovery Center
Monday, April 8th, 11:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (sharp)
Students will learn why eclipses occur and how to provision various viewing apparatuses. They will also receive a pair of Eclipse Glasses and view it with us at Wings of Eagles Discovery Center.

(Space is limited to 25 students) Students need to bring a non-microwavable lunch, drink, snack and lawn chair or blanket. $45 per Student
Overnight Eclipse Package at Clarion Inn
Guests who check in to the Clarion Inn Elmira Horseheads from April 5-8th will receive a special eclipse rate of $89 dollars, plus tax. Included in the package is complimentary admission to the nearby Arnot Art Museum, a cultural gem, and eclipse viewing glasses. Visitors traveling with children may also want to take advantage of Kid’s Create, a free workshop held at the museum on Saturday, 4/6 from 12-2pm. Led by a professional artist, the workshop provides the opportunity for adults to peruse the galleries while their children create their own masterpieces. Eclipse Craft Workshop at Arnot Art Museum
Saturday, April 6th, 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Arnot Art will be offering a free eclipse-themed craft workshop on Saturday, April 6, as part of its Kid’s Create program. Parents and/or guardians have a chance to peruse the galleries while their children are engaged.
Watch the Eclipse at Newtown Battlefield
Newtown Battlefield State Park is open to the public year-round from dawn to dusk and provides a good eclipse viewing option. Access to the top of the hill by vehicle is limited by weather. In the case of winter driving conditions, access into the park is by foot only, but vehicles can park outside the entry gate at the base of the hill and walk up. Restrooms Facilities and water only available until park officially opens in mid-May.
Eclipse Watch at the John W. Jones Museum Lawn

Join us on the 2.5 acre lawn of the John W. Jones Museum for this once in a lifetime event. Bring your chair, blanket and/or cooler - we will provide free eclipse glasses for safe viewing to the first 100 participants. No charge or advance registration needed. Note: Restrooms are not available.
